Portrait of an Apologetic Man is a comedy that pokes fun at the performative nature of celebrity apology videos. These videos and posts are our current vessel of acceptable propaganda that we expect when someone is called out.
After reading a Newsweek article about Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’s apology (for writing letters in support of Danny Masterson) being filmed in front of a completely innocuous looking wall that happened to be overlooking their pool and luxurious estate, I wanted to make something that emphasized how much work goes into making these insanely rich people seem as relatable as possible when making their apology videos.
Ultimately, this should be a good time, but I want everyone to understand that there are many people complicit in uplifting the billionaire class and propagandizing them. In a time where the majority of our society is finally recognizing how destructive the billionaire class is, I wanted to make a film that can laugh at them a bit.
